I don't consider Auras to be a role in the same way that I don't consider Marksmanship to be a role. They're both too passive. Not really. I haven't gotten rid of LNs, they're still present and a very large part of the Platoon Leader's playstyle. Maintaining constant use of non-LN related abilities will be very expensive in terms of Energy, whereas LNs will only require micro. If the PL doesn't want to treat Energy Cells like pacifiers between being useful, they'll keep some LNs around. That said, your phrasing of "developing the air support component of fire support into something more interesting and deep" can be read as supporting the decision, as (by literal interpretation) you are claiming that this is the more interesting and deep result. Yep. That's balance for you. Maybe people will start playing PL for things other than LNs. Well, even though it's highly discouraged due to Energy concerns, it's entirely possible for a PL player to avoid LNs altogether. Alternately, they can just pick up low-micro LNs like ARs.
